Smolen Emr + Associates Architects has AutoCAD 14, 2000 and 2004 capability that allows for close quality control with the use of shared base drawings. With software enhancements, the team has the capability to generate energy calculations, area calculations for site and buildings, detailed cost estimates, 3-D models, and electronic transfer of documents. The shared base drawings lend themselves for use by the project-related disciplines including, but not limited to, architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, interior, fire protection and life safety, security, communications, lighting, acoustics, elevators, roofing, and landscaping. By layering applicable elements on the documents that affect that particular design consultant, coordination of services is maintained at a very high degree. Authorized modifications to the base documents during the production phase may be easily achieved while maintaining tight coordination between the disciplines.

Smolen Emr + Associates Architects and the team members have utilized the Internet to electronically transfer drawings and specifications. Documents are updated and issued as electronic media to the team through the Internet, where they are downloaded by the respective consultants and incorporated into the design documents. This allows for seamless transfer of information that results in close coordination and immediate communications throughout the design process.
