Cedar Lane Program at Fulton Campus

Project Name:
Cedar Lane Program at Fulton Campus

Location:
Fulton, Maryland

Owner:
Howard County Public Schools

Estimated Cost:
$16-18 Million

The Cedar Lane School is dedicated to the education of students Pre-K through 12th Grade who have profound disabilities. As a result of the changing needs of the student population and the increase number of students, the existing facility ceased to meet the needs of the school program. It was during the feasibility process that it became apparent that the cost of renovation and addition had reached an amount equal to providing a new facility. After reconsideration, the Board of Education further decided that the new facility should be relocated to a new, more appropriate site on the Fulton Campus. The existing Fulton Campus site includes Fulton Elementary School, Lime Kiln Middle School and Reservoir High School. This new facility is designed to be attached to the existing Lime Kiln Middle School facility. The new 100,599 SF facility includes Pre K-12 classroom clusters, a therapy pool, a dining area, and an employee assisted Day Care facility for Howard County Public School System. Also included in the new facility to promote peer-to-peer integration are general education classrooms intended for the students of Lime Kiln MS, including a greenhouse, horticulture classroom and Career Skills classroom. It is hoped that the new building will function to better accommodate and enrich the lives of the young, handicapped population.
