Dowell Elementary is a 70,000 SF new elementary school in Calvert County, Maryland. The interior of this facility employs a skylight that bathes the entry and media center in natural light. The corridors terminate with exterior views and open interior spaces which extend site lines. Through the use of low walls the teachers' work areas, located at corridor intersections, convert support rooms into open areas. These features provide a naturally lit and spacious environment not typical of institutional facilities.
