This project included a 26,722 sq. ft. addition and minor renovation of an existing 116,745 sq. ft. middle school. The classroom addition was provided to increase student capacity to 1,100 students and to allow the removal of 14 portable classrooms. The classroom addition was situated to create an interior courtyard between the existing building and new addition. The new interior courtyard maintained natural light to existing spaces and allowed the new classrooms to have natural light and circulation as well. The location of the addition also improved corridor circulation by creating a new looped circulation pattern as well as two new stairwells to improve vertical circulation.
